People are the solution: The benefits of community-led housing

Community-led housing has shown to be an efficient solution to the lack of access to adequate housing all over the world. 6 organizations, including HIC, are coming together to create the platform of social production of habitat, aiming at giving a voice to the people who create new innovative housing solutions on a grassroots level.
Community-led housing has shown to be an efficient solution to the lack of access to adequate housing all over the world. The organizations involved on the creation of the platform are: With the collaboration of the UN rapporteur to adequate Housing, Leilani Farha, this platform will document community-led housing projects, make them visible and link them with support actors and public authorities. At the same time, the communities will develop new solidarity mechanisms in order to scale up their models.

Roundtable : "Promoting Community-led Housing Around the World"

This roundtable organized by urbaMonde will gather speakers from South Africa, El Salvador, Canada, Kenya, Senegal, Thailand, Uruguay, USA, Switzerland, etc. The meeting will bring together some of the major community-based actors of the Social Production of Habitat in Geneva to discuss concrete actions and strategies to guarantee the access to the Right to the City and to Adequate Housing.

Community-based organisations will address their achievements and challenges, and the inspiring solutions they are developing in different contexts around the world. This year, discussions will focus on inclusive public policies and solidarity mechanisms to support community-led housing, particularly the Solidarity Habitat Fund.
