Road Map to the City We Need
The Urban Thinkers Campus is a
special initiative of the World Urban Campaign and UN-Habitat, developed to
gather ideas from people around the world who are passionate about the future
of cities. The ideas developed at the UTCs will feed into the World Urban
Campaign’s City We Need process, and the agenda and outcome document of the
Habitat III Conference: the New Urban Agenda. 29 Urban Thinker Campuses are
planned in over a dozen countries on five continents, yet
this event is only one of two in the U.S.
Your input will help form the
backbone of the New Urban Agenda, the outcome of Habitat III that will guide
global thinking on urbanization for the next twenty years!
The NYC Urban Thinkers Campus (NYC
UTC) will begin with welcoming remarks by Mary Rowe, Executive Vice President
of the Municipal Art Society of New York, and Mary Watson, Executive Dean of
The New School of Public Engagement. Short presentations will then cover the
goals and context of the Urban Thinkers Campuses and participation mechanisms and
processes leading up to Habitat III and the drafting and implementation of the
New Urban Agenda.
In the afternoon, attendees will have
the opportunity to participate in three of nine Urban Labs, interactive
discussions moderated by NYC UTC partners, working toward consensus on a set of
recommendations to carry forward into the "zero draft” of The New Urban Agenda.
In a final plenary, Urban Lab moderators will report back and answer questions
about two tangible policy prescriptions developed during their sessions (one
old/recycled and one new).
In order to prepare editors and
journalists, the Habitat III Secretariat, media organizations, and local hosts
have organized a series of Urban Journalism Academies. An Urban Journalism
Academy (UJA) is being organized in conjunction with the NYC UTC and the second
day of the 2015 MAS Summit for New York City on Friday, October 23rd. For more information about the UJA please
